Dec 19 2017, 8:54 pm

Surrey RCMP are investigating an incident where shots were fired by plainclothes officers to stop a suspect vehicle in its tracks.

The incident occurred earlier today at approximately 12:30 p.m. when plainclothes police officers made attempts to stop a vehicle after it attempted to flee the scene at the 7100 block of Hall Road in Newton. The suspect vehicle resorted to colliding into two police vehicles, which led to a police response of using their armed weapons. However, no individuals were struck by the gunfire.

Police arrested three people in the vehicle – two males and one female. Two of the officers and one suspect were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is being investigated by the Surrey RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit. Anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.

On October 17, a multi-municipality police chase also ended at the 7100 block of Hall Road. Two of the three suspects were located and arrested in the area with the help of police dogs.

The location is also just one block away from Newton Arena, where hockey mom Julie Paskall was killed, and the Wings Restaurant where two cooks were stabbed while working.
