Aug 6 2019, 11:41 pm

A Surrey man ended up in hospital over the weekend, after he was struck by a “slow-moving” freight train while attempting to get his two dogs off a set of train tracks.

According to Surrey RCMP, the incident took place around 1 pm, on Sunday, just south of the 15,800 Block of Marine Road.

Officers and emergency crews responded to the scene after receiving “several” 911 reports of the man being hit by the train.

It was discovered that the man’s two unleashed dogs had run onto the tracks just as the man saw the train approaching. In an effort to get them off the tracks, the man was hit by the train as it attempted to stop, police said.

The 58-year-old received several non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Both dogs were uninjured in the incident.

Now, police are asking anyone who may have witnessed what occurred and not spoken to contact them at 604-599-0502. Thos who wish to leave an anonymous tip can do so by contacting Crime Stoppers.
