Surrey to host all-day virtual Canada Day celebration this Wednesday, July 1

Jun 29 2020, 3:15 pm

Canada Day typically means barbecues, watching fireworks, or heading out to a concert with your nearest and dearest. But just because we’re all keeping a healthy distance from one another this year, doesn’t mean we can’t still celebrate our beautiful country. It’s just a little bit different this year.

This Canada Day, whether you plan on having a socially-distanced get-together or decide to stay in and chill, there’s a one-of-a-kind festivity you’re going to want to tune into

The City of Surrey has announced it will be hosting a Virtual Surrey Canada Day party on Wednesday, July 1.

The event will be streamed on Facebook Live and YouTube Live and best of all, it’s free.

The City of Surrey knows that Canadians everywhere have been going through hard times recently, and it hopes to give back with a positive day of celebration. Think cultural shows, dance lessons, and rodeo tributes. There’s even going to be a virtual fireworks display!

The event will be hosted by Olympic gold medalist Hayley Wickenheiser (NBD) and encompasses programming throughout the day. For seniors and the little ones, there’ll be Family Hour at 10:30 am, followed by a variety of entertainment during the evening show starting at 6 pm.

And if that wasn’t enough, they will be giving away a grand prize valued at $500 every hour on Facebook Live! That’s FOUR chances to win!

The event organizers know that Canada Day is all about community, so they’re working with corporate partners to raise $10,000 for the Surrey Food Bank and support those in need during these troubling times. The event will also pay tribute to our local healthcare professionals and frontline workers.

In anticipation of the event, the City of Surrey wants to set your family up for a delicious dinner on Canada Day, and you can enter by following the details below.
