Body found in backyard outbuilding fire in Surrey

Police in Surrey say they are investigating the discovery of a body in a backyard building fire this morning.

Officers were called to a residence in the 10800 block of 132 Street at approximately 7 am to assist firefighters at the scene of the blaze. Shortly after, a deceased male was located in one of the outbuildings in the backyard of the residence.

At this time, investigators with the Major Crime Unit of Surrey RCMP have not determined the cause of the fire or the death. As well, the identity of the deceased male is not known.

The BC Coroners Service has been notified. Few details are available at this time as the investigation is still in its early stages.
