Surrey Crime Task Force Recommendations Announced

Dec 19 2017, 5:42 pm

Today Mayor Watt’s announced a new list of crime task force recommendations to deal with the escalating violence in the suburb of Vancouver.

The Surrey Crime Task was created in response to public pressure as well as the fallout from last year’s record breaking number of homicides in Surrey.

The crime task force recommendations include more police, foot patrols, a bike squad, and surveillance cameras on the streets to help curb the rising crime that has plagued the suburb the last few years.

Surrey’s ratio of police to residents is one officer for every 730 people. In comparison, the City of Vancouver has one cop for every 495 people.

The suburb of Surrey has a less than respectable reputation in Metro Vancouver, this despite the fancy marketing spin coming from Surrey City Hall. Many in the Lower Mainland are still not convinced buying that the future lives there.

The Surrey Crime Task Force is a good first step.
