Suddenly surging BC Lions are moving up the standings
After starting the season 1-5, the BC Lions are suddenly red hot.
The Lions have won four in a row, following a massive 30-16 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sunday, doing so in front of 30,083 fans at BC Place. Nathan Rourke threw for 355 yards in the contest, with two touchdowns and one interception.
Canadian wide receiver Jevon Cottoy made six receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown in the win. After scoring his touchdown, Cottoy handed the ball to his mom, who was remarkably taking in her first BC Lions game.
“[It’s] special, man,” Cottoy told TSN’s Farhan Lalji. “My mom’s first time in Vancouver, on the west coast, and her first time at a BC Lions game. I love my mom to death. She sacrificed everything for me. That touchdown made it feel more special.”
The win vaults BC into third place in the West Division, matching the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ 5-5 record. The Lions own the tiebreaker.

With eight games to go in the regular season, the Lions have plenty of time to try to secure a top-two spot in the West, which would guarantee a home playoff date at BC Place.
Even more reason for optimism? BC has two games scheduled against the Ottawa Redblacks, who own the CFL’s worst record at 0-10.

The Lions play their next two games on the road, in Ottawa on Aug. 30 and Montreal on Sept. 4. Their next home game at BC Place is Sept. 12, in a rematch against the Montreal Alouettes.
