SUP + ART = Serenity

Stand Up Paddle Boarding is bigger then ever in B.C. and now you can paddle on a piece of locally created art! When WazSUP paddle board shop (Pacific and Richards St., Vancouver) owner Harry Saini decided to launch his own brand of SUPs called Railay, he wanted the boards to be different from the average and combine both lightweight quality and affordable design with something that would be unique to Vancouver.

Harry has been a long time admirer of local painter April Lacheur’s work and felt it would be a perfect fit for his new collection of boards. Her work reflects the beauty of B.C.’s water, mountains and trees and a strong connection with nature and the environment. Not only can you find your serenity while riding the board, you can find it while admiring the artwork on the board. The board can double as a piece of art that can be mounted on the wall when not in use, perfect for people living in small homes in Vancouver. Lacheur’s painting ‘Among the birch’ can be found on the 10 ft. boards and ‘Urban Views’ on the 11″ boards. Also, a new race board is in production featuring one of April’s evergreen trees.

The first batch of boards quickly sold out and a second round is scheduled to arrive in store June 22. WazSUP shop is the only downtown Vancouver storefront 100 per cent dedicated to Stand Up Paddle boarding offering rentals, lessons, boards and accessories as well as April Lacheur’s art on the walls. Owner Harry is a SUP certified instructor incredibly passionate about the sport and opened the shop in hopes of “sharing the stoke” and getting as many people out enjoying the water as possible. He’s excited to be able to promote local at the same time as promoting his favorite outdoor activity.
