Summer Concerts in Vancouver

Dec 19 2017, 1:00 pm

So the playoffs are over and we can finally focus on other things to do in Vancouver. With summer on our doorstep a lineup of great artists is coming to our city on their concert tours. Here are some of the highlights and ‘not to be missed’ shows coming up in the next few months:

RIHANNA with B.O.B and J.Cole
Rogers Arena, June 24 and 25

R&B superstar from Barbados is guaranteed to put on an amazing show and bring in as much excitement to Rogers Arena as the Canucks game. Expect chart topping hits, enough sexy outfits to fill VancityBuzz ‘Hump Day Hottie’ entries for the next few months and of course a stunning stage show with all the bells, whistles and fireworks. With tickets starting at $19.75 you shouldn’t miss out on this.

THE BLACK KEYS
Deer Lake Park, June 27

This show was sold out as soon as it was announced. With one of the best albums of 2010 and fresh from headlining the Bonnaroo festival this will be one of the musical highlights of summer 2011 and, I hate to say it, but this one might be worth paying the ‘scalper’ prices.

BRITNEY SPEARS with Nicky Minaj, jessie and the Toy Boys and Nervo
Rogers Arena, July 1

Britney might be far from her top form but she is still one of the top pop artists and the Femme Fatale Tour is featuring several more great acts so it should be a great night. VancityBuzz will give away a set of tickets for this show – you can check out the contest here.

Soulstice 2011 with Ginuwine, Tony! Toni! Tone! SWV
Orpheum, July 1

NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK AND THE BACKSTREET BOYS
Rogers Arena, July 9 and 10

This should be interesting. The first show is sold out so I guess there are a lot of people interested in finding out if these 90’s icons can still hop around the stage in sync. It will be a busy night for Vancouver babysitters because most of the people who were in high-school when the other Wahlberg was famous now have small children.

THE TRAGICALLY HIP
Deer Lake, July 15

it’s one of Canada’s biggest rock bands of all time and you should never miss an opportunity to see legends performing live.

SOUNDGARDEN
Rogers Arena, July 29

Talking about legends – one of the iconic grunge bands from the 90’s is back together. Chris Cornell kept trying different things in his career but this is where he belongs and with Queens of the Stone Age and meat puppets as the opening acts this will be an amazing show.

SLAYER with Rob Zombie and Exodus
Rogers Arena, Aug 3

Get those hair extensions and get ready to mosh. This will definitely be the loudest event of the year!!

DEADMAU5
PNE, August 11 and 12
Who knew that great electronic music can come out of Niagara Falls? Deadmau5 is throwing a big party at the PNE and the first show sold out so fast that they had to add another date. Get out your glow sticks (do people still use those?) and dance away.

SADE
Rogers Arena, August 13

If you were dating in the 80’s and 90’s the odds are it was Sade you played when your date came over for dinner so you should surprise your then girlfriend and now wife with the romantic evening and go see this show.

BEN HARPER
Malkin Bowl, August 28

Summer evening in the park and Ben Harper on the stage in Malkin Bowl. What a great way to end the summer.

This are just some of the many great gigs in Vancouver this summer. If you have your favorites please mention them in the comments below.
