If you loved your days of camp as a child and have been looking for an outlet to hike, paddleboard, swim, kayak, dance and do yoga (all in one week), then look no further than Camp Fircom’s Mom (and kids!) Camp.
Last year I made the most excellent decision to take my six-year-old daughter to a four night, five day camp on Gambier Island through Camp Fircom. I spent weeks at camp when I was a child and remember them fondly as some of the best summers of my life.
When I was told about Mom and Kids Camp I thought it would be a great way to expose my daughter to summer camp at a young age and hopefully it would help instil some confidence in her to be able to go on her own in future years. Now I am not so sure I want that, because I realized at the end of camp I probably had as much fun as she did – something I wasn’t expecting.
The programming and staff are amazing at Camp Fircom, and the setting is breathtaking. I forgot just how much I love being in nature, given I am a city girl. Every morning we would wake up and have a delicious breakfast, then all the moms drop off your kids at their programming with their counsellors and have about three hours of free time. YES, you heard right moms – time for self-care while your kids are having the time of their lives.
We hiked to Halkett Bay, swam, kayaked, paddleboarded, did yoga, nature walks, took dance classes, read – the options were plentiful. Then after a nice lunch with your kids, you have waterfront time with them and mom and kid activities including archery, crafts, sports, and mom/kid yoga.
The day goes on with more fun activities, then dinner, and ends with campfire and songs your kids likely won’t stop singing all summer. After the kids go to bed, counselors come and watch your kids and again – free time for moms! Candlelight yoga, dessert on the dock, and painting are just a few of the activities you will enjoy.
Leave the makeup at home, turn off your phone and immerse yourself in a totally unique bonding experience with your children. Camp Fircom’s Mom & Kids camp is a community of incredible moms. One thing I really noticed was so much support amongst the women. There was no judgement. We just all had a wonderful time and watched our kids thrive, try new things and make new friends (and we did the same).
Given the popularity of this camp, 50% is already sold out so don’t delay if you’re interested in coming. More info here.
