Frank And Oak's custom style subscription will change the way you shop

We’ve all experienced the sheer joy of waiting for (and receiving) something in the mail, especially through a subscription service. From products to magazines, it’s easy to get caught up in the delayed gratification of getting another present sent straight to your doorstep. (Confession: I used to collect Sabrina’s Secrets.)

Now you can experience that same feeling (but even stronger) with a monthly clothing subscription. We’re living in 2018, we want convenience, but we do not want to compromise our style. Luckily, we don’t have to.

Personally, I don’t really shop online for clothing that much, nor had I tried a clothing subscription. The skeptical side of me wondered how good the service would actually be.

So when the opportunity arose to try Montreal-based Frank And Oak’s Style Plan clothing subscription box, I was super intrigued to see what it had to offer.

Let’s start with the basics

A Style Plan subscription is kind of like having your own monthly personal shopper.

If you were thinking that robots select the clothes you receive, you’ve got it all wrong. After you answer a short survey, stylists at Frank And Oak pick clothes they think you would like.

I selected my size, the ‘creative’ style option, and they took it from there. You’re also asked which colours you dislike wearing so you don’t have to worry about being faced with a colour that makes you want to cry.

Just 48 hours after you submit your desired information, you’ll be sent a preview of up to three items inside your box. This is your chance to confirm, skip the entire month, or customize your box before it’s shipped.

My hope was to create several outfit options with the items in my box, and with a slight change, I did. I also ordered an extra t-shirt since Style Plan subscription members get up to 20% off site-wide with exclusive member-only pricing!

A couple of days later, my delivery arrived and I couldn’t wait to try on everything.

I love the fact that you can avoid lengthy fitting room queues and try on the pieces at home. Shipping is free in Canada and the US, and so are returns. So you only have to keep what you love and you can send anything else back, hassle-free.

Did I send anything back?

Absolutely not, here’s why.

The perfect fit

Prior to the Style Plan subscription, I had never shopped at Frank And Oak (sorry, I’m relatively new to Canada!). This meant I had no idea how each item would fit me and my size varies depending on the brand.

I did some quick research online and found that ordering a size down would be the best option for me. It was!

The retro Nina wide leg high-rise jeans do sit at your “true waist” like it says on the Frank And Oak website. When you pair them with the true black boy tee, you feel That ’70s Show vibes in the best way possible.

This outfit wins brownie points because it can be worn casually or dressed up with heels and accessories. Plus, the jeans are 100% cotton — like, super soft.

I fell in love with the denim pinafore in black because (just like the jeans) I know it’s something I’ll have in my wardrobe for years. For a simple and casual look, you can pair it with a striped boy t-shirt.

To be honest, I’m already thinking about wearing it with a polo neck sweater, tights, and boots during winter (or during any trip home to Ireland).

Frank And Oak are moving toward having all of their products made with sustainable, eco-friendly materials and processes. You’ll see that every product you receive in your style box has a “minimal” tag – this is part of that new direction.

The brand is focusing on hydro-less denim which uses 79% less energy, 50% fewer chemicals, and 95% less water, natural dyes, recycled and sustainable materials.

After a mini fashion show in my new Frank And Oak pieces, I’m chuffed about the fact that I have up to four outfit combinations with the items I was sent.

Of course, the pinafore and jeans can be paired up with tops and sweaters that I already have, which makes me dream about the endless options.

The Style Plan monthly clothing subscription box gets top marks from me because I think it’s an amazing way to experiment with your outfits and build high-quality staples for your wardrobe.

And it’s not something you have to commit to long-term.

There’s no monthly fee; you only pay for what you keep, you can skip a month, and cancel at any time, so you’re free to use the plan as it suits you. If you return all three items you’ll be charged a $25 styling fee — that’s it.

What have you got to lose? Try it out for yourself at Frank And Oak.
