Unlike the Yew Residence in Vancouver that we recently featured, this house in Burnaby (yes, Vancouver Specials can also be found in the suburbs) is much more like the traditional Vancouver Special. Titled the “Delta Residence” it too went through an amazing transformation. Here are the before and after photos.
Delta Residence Before
This house is sighted on a beautiful property perched high above Burnaby with a 270 degree view of the city and the water. Unfortunately, it was as typical as a Vancouver Special can get in terms of design.
Delta Residence After
To capitalize on the views of the site, an additional 3rd floor was constructed to the existing roof. This level housed the master suite with a walk-in closet and a large ensuite with an amazing roof deck.
The 2nd floor below did not change much, but the kitchen was completely redone to allow for undisturbed views to the dining room and city views beyond. The use of large expanses of glass in the front face of the home opened things up.
The interior aesthetics were completely updated with contemporary details. The focal point of the home is the open set of stairs floating past a textured featured wall.
The main floor was repartitioned for a 2 bedroom rental suite and a recreation room for the upper unit’s use.
The exterior had a complete facelift with stucco, natural cedar accents and large expanses of glass.
