The StudentAid BC website is down on Monday morning after reportedly being hacked into over the weekend.

Students across the province noticed the issue on Sunday evening, many of whom were attempting to access applications for financial loans.

Screenshots shared on social media showed a logo and the words “Guardian Security Team” on the homepage of the website in black and green. Below the logo was the text “Game Over for you, but My Game has just Begun.”

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training says that they and the Chief Information Officer are “aware of the issue” and are currently investigating.

“At this time, we are not aware of any personal data being compromised,” they told Daily Hive in an email. “We have taken immediate steps to mitigate any further exposure.”

“This includes temporarily shutting down affected websites while we work with our IT staff to resolve the issue.”

StudentAid BC posted on its Twitter account on Monday morning as well, saying that the website is temporarily unavailable as they “work to resolve an issue affecting multiple government websites.”
