Stray bullet kills innocent bystander in Abbotsford

A stray bullet killed an innocent man during a targeted shooting in an Abbotsford residential neighbourhood on Wednesday evening.

According to Abbotsford Police, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 3500 block of Promontory Court. When emergency services arrived to the scene, they found a vehicle in a driveway with damage caused by gunfire and a deceased 74-year-old male outside a nearby home with a gunshot wound.

It appears the shooting was targeted at an adjacent home, but bullets also traveled towards the direction of a neighbouring residence. The senior neighbour was outside his home at the time of the shooting.

“The initial indications are that he was merely standing outside the neighbouring home when a targeted shooting took place in the adjacent driveway,” said police in a statement.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case. Anyone with information that could be helpful to investigators is asked to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers (anonymous hotline) at 1-800-222-8477.
