A “sexually motivated” assault that was reported in a woman’s backyard, didn’t actually take place, according to the Abbotsford Police Department.

Crime Detectives have concluded their investigation into the incident, which took place on August 6.

It was first reported by police that a 42-year-old female was assaulted in her back yard. A press release states that the woman was “in her backyard alone on her deck when she was grabbed from behind” and that she “received minor injuries during the attack.”

The initial incident was reported to have taken place late at night and was believed to be “sexually motivated.”

Now, police are saying that there was no assault that took place but the victim was influenced by “a historical traumatic event that occurred in another province.”

The victim wishes to offer an apology to the community for causing an alarm, and investigators say that they’ll be working with community partners to ensure that she receives appropriate support.

The Abbotsford Police wish to remind people that there is help for victims of a crime, both current and historical.
