Story of Glory: BC Lions draft Oregon senior with sights set on NFL

Senior linebacker from Oregon, Boseko Lokombo, continues to tackle some major milestones to reach his end goal.

In ‘Football for Dummies’ terms: A linebacker has to be physically strong, mentally tough and not afraid to make a collision, with the ability to read plays and understand the game on a variety of levels.

But of course, for a pro like Bo, it goes much deeper than that.

“I enjoy football because it gives me a chance to express myself,” Boseko told Vancity Buzz, “and I’ve always wanted to play in the NFL because it’s my dream since I started football.”

The graduate of WJ Mouat secondary school in Abbotsford is setting his sights on Radio City Music Hall in New York, where he expects to get a first rounder in the 2014 draft.

“It takes dedication, inspiration and hard work,” Lokombo summarizes. “My Oregon teammates are like a brotherhood, my family is my inspiration and working hard has gotten me everything I have.”

Entering his fourth year at Oregon, Lokombo is a hoping for some slight changes in defensive strategy, in order to help boost his draft potential.

Regardless, he is the top-ranked player in two of the three draft rankings put out by the CFL since last September, almost a year ago now.

“I knew I was going to be special, but I never thought I would’ve accomplished all that I have at such a young age,” remarks a humbled Lokombo.

He wants to keep the momentum going, and has thus remained a man in motion.

Drafted by the BC Lions, Lokombo says he is “grateful” that his hometown will have his rights and that the opportunity is available “should he choose that path.” Regardless – Canada remains a fall-back plan.

As the NFL evolves and Lokombo looks to remain in high demand; with his heart in the game, his eye on the accolade, and his mind in the zone, this is one dream he refuses to fumble.
