Holiday cheer meets science at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre on Dec. 20 and Dec. 21.
For one weekend only, Starlight with Santa allows families to blast off into a festive adventure where they can explore the magic of the season while discovering the wonders of the night sky.
Eyes on the sky
The event runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and ticket holders get to choose a showtime at the immersive 360° star theatre: Messenger of Time and Space at 1 p.m., World of Ice at 2 p.m., Big Astronomy at 3 p.m., or One Big Sky Project: Dream of the Stars at 4 p.m.
Each show ranges from 30 to 45 minutes, and guests are encouraged to arrive early or stick around after to enjoy the rest of the festive activities available.
The 57-year-old theatre experience recently underwent some major upgrades, making it one of the most advanced planetarium environments in Canada.
You can be among the first to experience the 10K resolution and NASA-developed visualization technology. It will feel like you’re actually in space — minus the years of astronaut training and insane G-force, of course.
Making merry memories
Word on the street is that Santa will be on-site until 4:30 p.m. to take pictures. It’s first come first served, so don’t miss your chance to meet the big fella.
There will also be hands-on DIY ornaments and crafts for kids of all ages, and access to the interactive Cosmic Courtyard for a live demonstration with the science interpreter.
And to give the experience an extra dose of holiday magic, opt for the North Pole Journey when purchasing your tickets. This 10-minute add-on offers a special 360° North Pole stargazing experience at the end of your selected planetarium show, so that you can get a glimpse of Santa’s night sky.
The weekend promises to be a unique and magical holiday experience for kids and adults alike. Spots are limited, so be sure to book your tickets online now. Say hi to Santa for us!
