Coffee lovers of Vancouver are about to have one less Starbucks location to choose from.

A notice posted at the International Village location at 99 Keefer Place and shared online announced that Starbucks #04341 will close on Friday, February 14.

Dished confirmed the news with a phone call to the Gastown location, with a team member stating that Valentine’s Day would be their last in operation.

“We would like to thank you for being part of our store community; you are the heart of who we are at Starbucks,” the notice reads. “It has been a great pleasure to connect with you everyday.

“We are very thankful to have played a role in your daily routine [and] that you have shared these moments of your life with us.”

According to Leanna Rizzi, communications manager of Public Affairs for Starbucks Coffee Canada, the store closed due to a natural lease expiry.

“As a standard course of business, we continually evaluate our store portfolio to ensure it meets the needs of our partners (employees), customers and the communities we serve,” Rizzi told Dished. “When we approach the end of a lease with any of our stores, we routinely review the partner and customer experience and after careful consideration, we decided to not renew our lease and close the store at 99 Keefer Place.

“All Starbucks partners (employees) working at that store will have the opportunity to transfer to one of our nearby locations. We are proud to be a part of and remain committed to investing in the Vancouver community and look forward to serving our customers at our nearby locations. ”

Commenters online discussed how challenging working in that location must be.

“I’ve never been much of a Starbucks person, but another big name pulling out of this area is another loss. There’s a Tim Hortons up the block, I guess,” said one person.

“Starbucks is slowly closing all of their stores here in Vancouver. Likely expensive rent but also this location would have other challenges,” added another person.

Dished has reached out to Starbucks for more information and will update this story.
