Production has been set for “Star Trek 3,” which will head to Vancouver for a summertime shoot.

The film franchise’s plans to film in British Columbia surfaced last October, when then-director Robert Orci was spotted scouting locations in Vancouver.

Orci had been tapped to helm the third contemporary voyage of the Enterprise and crew in what was seen as a “big career coup,” after J.J. Abrams left the director’s chair, according to Deadline. In December, Orci quit the gig, though, and just before Christmas, “Fast and Furious 6” director Justin Lin was named as successor.

Lin will lead the cast of familiar faces, with Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto resuming their starring roles in the reboot film franchise, along with Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and John Cho. There is also speculation that “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston is being considered to play a villain.

Rumour also has it Canadian William Shatner may be making a cameo in the movie.

“Production of the new Star Trek movie will pump millions in the B.C. economy and provide work for hundreds of locals,” notes Global.

Filming is scheduled to begin June 1 and run into the end of September. The movie is due out in June 2016.
