A local Vancouver company will guide you on a virtual walking tour of Stanley Park’s magnificent totem poles.

Run by Talaysay Tours, the Talking Totems Tour will introduce you to the stories, art, and legends of the Salish Peoples who have lived in the area for thousands of years.

“We have a rich, eclectic representation of Northwest Coast Peoples and our art forms,” said Candace Campo, the owner and operator of Talaysay Tours, on social media.

“The many poles represent many purposes and values amongst our peoples.”

The tour explores the different styles of totem poles and what each represents, such as memorials and those that show lineage, as well as the rich diversity of Indigenous people in the region.

“Each totem, sculpture, [and] gateway has a distinct story, purpose, [and] legend,” Talaysay Tours’ website reads.

The virtual Talking Totems Tours are offered daily for groups of six to 12 people. Each guided tour runs between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the number of participants.

For those who want to get a little closer to the Totems, tours are also offered in Stanley Park.
