With the notion of the social venture being a relatively untapped market in Vancouver it is with pride that I am the first to welcome an entrant such as “Sport for Change Events Co.” to this amazing city!
Sport for Change Events Co. (SFC) is looking to pave a new active path on the streets of Vancouver promoting sport with friends while contributing to a greater cause. They are a social venture that organizes single day sporting events for the public to take part in and then allocate profits from those events to both of their “Local and International Community Leadership through Sport Development Projects”.
The local segment is designed to work with aspiring youth leaders who will co-manage and co-create single day sport events throughout various communities within Canada. There are no limitations to where these leaders are located; it’s up to the youth leaders! The sport and location is decided by the youth while Sport for Change will work with them along their journey to create their event. One hundred per cent of the proceeds from these events are then contributed to the international projects fostering sport and community development overseas.
In contrast to local initiatives, the International Community Leadership through Sport Development Project is designed to inspire leadership in disadvantaged countries as well as create opportunities for youth and their communities. The goal of the first project will be to develop measureable and sustainable support systems within Philippine communities. Sport for Change will educate these communities on the importance of sport and supply the necessary equipment to play as a method of inspiring youth involvement and community leadership.
So if you’re wondering how you can get involved, it’s simple!
Sport for Change is hosting its inaugural event, The SFC Men’s Ice Hockey Event, on August 20th, 2011 at the new Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre at Hillcrest Park.
The event will run from 10:00am – 6:00pm and is only $49.99/person plus HST with a maximum of 5 teams. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get in some pre-season hockey action as the event will fill quickly.
