Special Weather Statement calls for "potentially damaging winds" in Metro Vancouver today

A special weather statement issued by Environment Canada is calling for “potentially damaging winds” in Metro Vancouver today.

The weather statement was issued for the following areas:

  • Metro Vancouver – central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver – North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver – southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Vancouver – southwest including Richmond and Delta

“For Metro Vancouver, Southern Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast – Gibsons to Earls Cove and communities in the mouth of Howe Sound, including Bowen Island, the south to southeast winds up to 60 km/h will veer sharply to the northwest 40 to 60 km/h with gusts up to 70 km/h this morning,” notes the statement.

The winds are expected to taper off in the afternoon.
