Last-minute special FX makeup looks for Halloween (no costume needed)
Halloween is almost here and time to plan a ghoulish transformation is running out.
If you’re looking to create a last-minute look you can rock to work, trick-or-treating with the kids, or to a Halloween party, Vancouver’s beauty destination and retail extension of Blanche Macdonald, CurliQue has you covered.
The team of professional makeup artists working at the boutique are graduates of their programs, and no makeup look is off-limits. To give you a helping hand with your last-minute look for Halloween, they’ve shared two step-by-step special FX makeup tutorials — no costume needed.
How to create a special FX wound
How to create a special FX bruise
In addition to the tutorials above, the CurliQue team says the following four tips are key if you’re doing special FX makeup for Halloween:
- Always do a patch test before applying any heavy-duty products like silicone or latex to the face.
- Never use silicone in your hair, and always protect your hairline with Vaseline.
- Mixing dark green and red gives you a dark red colour. If your fake blood just doesn’t have the right hue, use some dark green food colouring — this will do the trick.
- Having a hard time getting your makeup off? Place a warm towel over your face — the steam from the towel will help loosen any prosthetics or heavily applied products.
Now, have fun transforming yourself into the scariest zombie you’ve ever seen.
