Vancity Buzz and Benchmark Homes, the developer behind The Estates at Southwood, sent me and my friend Arby on a mission to explore the best of South Surrey living. We accepted the mission, and had such a great time!
All, within minutes of Southwood, here are the highlights of our South Surrey Best Date Ever!
The Shops at Morgan Crossing
The date began at South Surrey’s Morgan Crossing, a shopping destination designed for the city’s future. With pedestrian-friendly outdoor promenades and a great mix of independent boutiques and global fashion outlets, it’s an essential stop for a new date outfit.
In addition to the shopping, there’s lots to keep you busy at The Shops at Morgan Crossing. If your date happens to heart shopping less than you, they can keep occupied with the free WiFi. Or sit in the car, parked in a free parking spot. You don’t need their input anyway, you look great.
Arby and I strolled the shops, chilled by the fountains, and enjoyed the intermittent sunshine. We also scoped out a shiny and exotic dinner spot, located conveniently within Morgan Crossing. Stay tuned!
Sunnyside Acres Urban Forest
An easy escape from urban life can be made at Sunnyside Acres in South Surrey. This urban forest is 130 hectares and offers visitors a refreshing jaunt through natural second growth foliage.
The 4 km nature trail is recommended for seeing the best of the park’s beauty, definitely a romantic detour for any South Surrey date. Gaze into the canopy, and then into your date’s eyes, and then into those of a coyote or black-tailed deer, which roam the park.
We recommend caution with the wildlife, as well as the self-guided interpretive walk map on the city of Surrey’s website.
The Estates at Southwood
Tine to check out the dream home! The detached house and yard that you’ve yearned for can be a reality. What’s more, it can be in an incredible neighbourhood surrounded by everything you want and need. The Estates at Southwood offer just that.
Schools, parks, community centres, and even the US border are all short distances from the great estate lots. Whether you’re hoping for space for a family or space to express yourself, The Estates at Southwood have you covered.
A Southwood home would also be a great place to begin and end a spectacular date in the neighbourhood any day of the week. Arby and I visualized details of domestic life in a framed-out future estate. Already arguing over paint colours, we decided it was time to hit the spa.
Aru Spa
After the design disagreements over our new estate home, Arby and I needed balance restored with a rejuvenating massage in a super-stylish spa. South Surrey had us covered with Aru, a complete salon and day spa offering the best treatments and services around.
Whether you need hair, waxing, makeup, massage, facial or mani-pedi, Aru is the destination for wellness and beauty in South Surrey, a definite stop on the date itinerary.
Arby and I were treated to one hour relaxation massages, a blissful experience to say the least. With great staff and a modern atmosphere, we both vowed to come back next time we were in the neighbourhood.
Crescent Beach
The great outdoors await you at Crescent Beach, South Surrey’s vibrant oceanside community. Just a short drive from Southwood, the beach offers outdoor activity or outdoor relaxation in whatever variety you’re a fan of.
For dates of an aquatic nature, the water’s great at Crescent Beach. Whether swimming, boating, kayaking, or stand up paddle boarding is your speed, the peaceful coast here is a great place do it. For low-impact daters, kite-flying, strolling the shoreline, picnicing, or leisurely beach sports are recommended.
A stone’s throw from the beach are great restaurants, coffee shops, and cultural hotspots like Beach House Theatre. Altogether, the area is a gem of South Surrey living, and worth a visit for locals, prospective locals, and visitors alike.
My Shanti
Coated in shimmering sequins, My Shanti is the brand new restaurant of vaunted local chef Vikram Vij. A jewel in the new South Surrey’s culinary crown, this is the place to conclude your date, as we did, in spectacular deliciousness.
With a new menu nodding to Vij’s travels through India’s small towns, the flavours at My Shanti are not to be missed. Arby and I enjoyed a variety of dishes, including the Indian democracy of Samosas, Calcutta steamed fish, and Hyderabadi chicken biryani.
As with Vij’s in Vancouver, no reservations are accepted here, so time your date accordingly to enjoy My Shanti. You may have Vij himself drop by your table!
