Test drive electric vehicles at this FREE eco-science fair in Vancouver

If you’re living in Vancouver, you’ve got no excuse to be bored, especially this coming weekend.

On Saturday, July 21, there’s an Eco and Science Fair happening on Fraser Street and there are a plethora of reasons why you’ll want to be there.

Let’s start with the fact that, besides the food, it’s 100% free to attend.

The event is taking place from 10 am to 4 pm (rain or shine), so you have all of these incredibly fun things to look forward to:

The cars

You’ll have the chance to drive a ‘Solo’ electric commuter car on the Meccanica Test Drive Track. If you’ve been wondering what all the fuss is about when it comes to e-vehicles, this is the ideal time to find out for yourself.

And you can also see and sit in both fancy electric cars from Tesla, Volkswagen, and Chevrolet while you’re there. Don’t forget to visit the brand new electric vehicle charging stations in the west 44th Avenue parking lot where the City will be doing demos of how the EVCS work to charge an electric vehicle battery.

So if you’ve got an electric vehicle, this means you’ll be able to charge up the next time you’re shopping in South Hill. And this is one of seven locations approved for a ‘fast-charging’ EHub station by Vancouver City Council.

The fair

When you arrive at the event, make sure to pick up a Passport to South Hill at one of the block entrances closest to you. If you do and you get it filled out at three businesses on Fraser Street between 41st and 50th avenues from July 21 to 28, you will qualify  to enter the Contest for a chance to win a SONOS home audio system from Sunny Electronics AV!

You can check out the entertainment stage where you’ll hear acapella singing, live blues music from Harris&DeBray, see Wushu perform Kung Fu demonstrations, watch fast tapping feet from Dance Co. and you’ll have the opportunity to join a Zumba class from Eastside Fitness if you feel like it. There’s also going to be pop-ups from Vancouver Aquarium, Science World, and Mike’s Critters, so you’ll get to see starfish, urchins and anemones, but also reptiles, turtles, and rodents, up close.

Let’s not forget about the ecology and science exhibits, because there’s something for all the family at this fair.

The food

You might as well do as the locals do when you’re visiting South Hill and enjoy some global-inspired cuisine. Whether you’re in the mood for Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Malaysian, Pakistani, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Vietnamese, the Indochine Kitchen & Bar, or quick Canadian fare, you can find it on Fraser Street.

One of Vancouver’s most bespoke Japanese bakeries is also in the area where the pretty matcha cakes already have your name on them, if you know what we mean. You’ll also find HolySmokesHotdogs and Ice Cream on Wheels’ truck on site to help you beat the heat.

Eco and Science Fair/South Hill Business Association

There’s going to be a quiz that you can take part in at the South Hill Business Association booth. We want to give you a head start before you get there by giving you the question: How many languages can you hear spoken on Fraser Street? And the answer (about 14). If you can name eight of the languages you’ll be entered into a draw for a chance to win a SEA CHANGE hoodie or t-shirt.

You can go ahead and mark your calendar for this Saturday right now.
