Is soup cleansing the new juicing?

The beginning of a new year is a perfect time to cleanse and reset your system. Juice cleanses are hugely popular, but the soup cleanse is also gaining recognition as an alternate way to flush out toxins and feel amazing.

I recently tried a soup cleanse from local company Kits Kitchen who offer a 48 Hour Reset – two days of healthy, filling soups that will help your body and digestive system to heal and recharge. The reset contains eight soups and four infused chicken and beef broths. Bone broth is the hottest new super food and has a long list of benefits including increased hydration, boosted immunity, and is rich in minerals that promote healing of the digestive system. For someone who has suffered with a number of tummy-related issues, this was very appealing to me.

I was by no means starving throughout this process. The soups were quite hearty and I actually found it difficult to get through all of them. Unlike other cleanses, the reset is lenient in that you can also incorporate other easily digestible foods if need be. I had an apple as well as some veggies on both days. Drinking water is also crucial and keep in mind, your energy levels will be lowered so you will want to stick to low impact exercise or just take the two days off!

At the end of the two days, I felt refreshed and my stomach was quite settled. While juice cleanses offer a number of similar benefits, the soup reset was a more doable way to cleanse and give my stomach a break from harder to break down foods.

While they are not as widespread as the juice cleanse, soup cleanses are popping up throughout Vancouver. In addition to Kits Kitchen, SPUD is also offering one. This cleanse, offered by the Soup Box comes in a one, three and five day option. Unlike the Kits Kitchen reset, this cleanse is vegetarian. If you are unsure about the bone broth, the Alkalizing Lemon Water offered through this cleanse may be more suitable for you.

You can also enjoy the best of both worlds with a partnership cleanse offered by Kits Kitchen and The Juicery. The Warming Detox is offered in both three and five days and is a combination of juices and soups that are designed to detox your system.
