“Why do people get married?” It seems like an easy question to answer, but if you take a second to step back and really consider what marriage is and what it means to both couples and society, it becomes more abstract.

As part of a social experiment, Vancouver-based wedding photography and videography company Premier Love took to the streets to ask Vancouverites their thoughts on the matter.

At first, most struggled to define the benefits of marriage, leading to less than romantic answers like “tax purposes” and “convenience”. But when given time to think, those questioned began to realize the purpose of marriage was not for societal reasons. Instead, it lay simply with showing love.

Take a look.
