BC Coroners service identify Blackcomb snowmobile accident victim

The BC Coroners Service released the identity of the man who died in a snowmobile accident on Blackcomb Mountain on New Years Day.

Paul Leechburch-Auwers, 65, was visiting Whistler from Catherine Field, Australia, was snowmobiling with a group of people at around 11 p.m. on January 1. He was going down a trail when he lost control of his snowmobile and went along a concrete barrier, over an embankment, and then struck a tree.

Leechburch-Auwers died on the scene shortly after midnight.

The man’s family has been notified and BC Coroners Service and Whistler RCMP are continuing to investigate his death.
