Snowboarder found dead within Whistler ski boundaries

Rescuers have retrieved the body of a 29-year-old Ontarian man within Whistler’s in-bounds ski area.

On Tuesday, the man was snowboarding with a group of friends who decided to split up earlier in the afternoon. They alerted ski patrol that he was missing when he did not show up at the bottom in the evening, long after the mountain was closed for the day.

A ground and air search by ski patrol and Whistler RCMP began Wednesday morning. The search area was narrowed to the ski zone near the Harmony 6 Express chairlift as his ski lift pass was scanned at the base of the lift early Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, the missing snowboarder’s body was discovered within a treed area at Harmony Bowl. He was wearing a helmet and the cause of death has not been determined, but it appears to be an accident.

Authorities have notified the family of the deceased man and are working to have his body sent home. The identity of the man has not been made public at this time.
