This is the 5th installment of the small business series. Many readers have expressed their interest in this series because it highlights small businesses. Now some of you might be thinking what would a big business office worker care about small business. To be honest the Urban Dweller is an avid supporter of both small and large businesses. Small businesses play a vital role in our economy and contribute to our neighbourhood identity. On the other hand, big business has its benefits too as it employs more individuals amongst other things.
So today I bring you Camouflage. This store located on Granville Street has been around since the 80’s. I remember walking by it one day thinking who shops at an army store other than your neighbourhood anarchists. They don’t have much money so how do these businesses stay open? Once again I was stupid to jump to such silly conclusions. Camouflage sells everything from knives to Converse sneakers. The latter is the reason I venture into this store. Some of the other items they carry are Dr. Martens (remember those?), Dickies, pellet guns, dog tags, hats, belts and a whole lot of other things.
The staff is friendly and always willing to help you locate a particular item. Just last week they were running a Chuck’s promotion claiming every possible colour was available for sale. Naturally I had to go in and buy a few pairs.
I hope that the recent rent hikes on Granville Street won’t impact this store. Or perhaps they’ll find a new location somewhere else as the evolution of Granville strip continues. Be sure you check out this store located at 888 Granville Street. It’s a must see for Chuck Taylor aficionados.
