SkyTrain track issues causes delays, long lines at stations (PHOTOS)

Dec 19 2017, 4:37 pm

Earlier this morning, track issues along SkyTrain’s busiest section caused systemwide delays and long lineups at stations.

Many transit riders reported on Twitter being late for work and school, with some commutes extended for hours in long station queues and rides on bus bridges near the track breakdown area.

At this time, TransLink is still attempting to resolve the issue at the outbound platform track of the Expo Line’s Main Street-Science World Station.

SkyTrain service as of this hour:

  • The Millennium Line is running from VCC-Clark Station to Columbia Station and back.
  • Expo service is between King George & Joyce, and between Waterfront & Main St Stn. There are two shuttle trains, one from Main St Stn to Nanaimo, the other from Nanaimo to Joyce.
  • There are bus bridges between stations, and a bus bridge from VCC-Clark to Main St Stn.

Update:

The cause of the track issue was the result of a improperly installed power rail track overnight as part of the station’s upgrades.

Main Street-Science World Station is currently undergoing a major $30 million renovation and refit. Construction is scheduled for a summer 2014 completion.
