Expect reduced 15-minute SkyTrain service in Surrey this summer due to track replacement work

Longer waits on SkyTrain’s Expo Line within Surrey can be expected starting later this summer due to extensive maintenance work to replace a track switch.

On a daily basis over seven weeks, TransLink will shut down one side of the tracks near Gateway Station to replace the switch that enables trains to change tracks.

These scheduled service disruptions will begin on Saturday, July 12, and run through the end of August 2025, including weekends.

The public transit authority advises passengers to plan an extra 15 minutes of travel time as there will be longer waits for trains due to the reduced number of trains that can operate on the Expo Line’s segment between Gateway Station and King George Station.

A TransLink spokesperson told Daily Hive Urbanized the estimated 15-minute wait times will occur daily until 10 p.m., at which point normal nighttime service will resume for the rest of each night.

During this period, the Expo Line will have an operating pattern of trains running between Waterfront Station and Braid Station, between Waterfront Station and Production Way-University Station, between Waterfront Station and Gateway Station, between Waterfront Station and Surrey Central Station, and between Surrey Central and King George Station. To reach the Surrey terminus station of King George Station, passengers will need to change trains at Surrey Central Station.

Passengers are asked to check the real-time next-train digital displays to ensure they are boarding the correct train.

TransLink states this is a similar replacement project to the one completed in Summer 2023, which replaced the switch immediately south of Gateway Station. The Summer 2025 project replaces the switch further south of that location.
