SkyTrain dates: 8 things to do around Braid Station

For everyone who’s made the commute, you know Braid Station is pretty tucked away. But if you haven’t gotten off the train to have a peak around you’re missing out on some pretty cool stuff.

You may have to walk a few minutes, but Braid is the closest station to a bunch of Coquitlam and New Westminster activities.

So in case you didn’t know, here’s a list of great date ideas and things to do around Braid station.

Planet Lazer

  • What: A 20-minute long mission with only one rule—kill or be killed. With glow in the dark gear and fun sounding, laser emitting guns, this is the perfect location for a first date or any chill session with your squad.
  • Where: 100 Braid Street, New Westminster
  • When: Daily 10:30 am – 10 pm
  • How much: $9.50 per game

Koh Thai

  • What: The place to go if you’re looking for some killer Pad Thai. Koh Thai is tropics-themed in more ways than just the food, the fun atmosphere is a major part of what makes this place great. One of the hidden gems of New West.
  • Where: 502 E.Columbia St, New Westminster
  • When: Daily from noon – 3 pm and 5 pm – 10 pm
  • How much: Most meals are under $15

Eaglequest Golf

Went to the driving range, we obviously played super seriously.

  • What: A course for golfers who want to be in and out in a few hours. Offers a nine hole course, chipping green, covered range, mini golf and bar and grill making this an ideal setup for an evening out.
  • Where: 1001 United Blvd, Coquitlam
  • When: Daily 7:30 am – 10 pm
  • How much: $18 for unlimited golf, or $9 for a round of mini golf

Hume Park

  • What: One of New Westminster’s best picnic spots and a great day trip for the whole family. Hume Park boasts an outdoor swimming pool, spray park, playground and large fields perfect for summer soccer games.
  • Where: 660 E Columbia St, New Westminster
  • When: Anytime
  • How much: Free!

Maillardville

  • What: The French historic Centre of the lower mainland. Full of heritage homes, cute streets and plenty of French-speaking city dwellers you can experience a bit of Francophone culture without straying too far from home.

  • How much: Free!

100 Braid Street Studios and Gallery Paint Night

  • What: A guided paint class that’s more about the party than the painting. Entry includes all art supplies, wine, and light appies.
  • Where: 100 Braid Street, New Westminster
  • When: Varying weeknights 7 pm – 9:30 pm
  • How much: $35 for one person, or $60 for two!

Ikea Coquitlam 

  • What: A quirky date idea for fun loving folks who aren’t afraid to think a little outside of the box. Highlights include buying at least one cactus, picking out your dream kitchen, and eating delicious (not to mention cheap) Ikea food. Walk a few minutes down the road to Silvercity for a even fuller evening.
  • Where: 1000 Lougheed Hwy, Coquitlam
  • When: Weekdays 10 am – 9 pm, Saturdays 10 am – 8 pm and Sundays 10 am – 7 pm
  • How much: $5 – $20 / person depending on your meal

Townhall Public House

  • What: Pub food at its finest. You can catch a quick bus from Braid and be sipping Mohitos and Sangria in no time without needing to call a cab home. Swing by anytime because their breakfast, lunch and dinner menus all boast some pretty stellar eats.
  • Where: 925 Brunette Avenue, Coquitlam
  • When: Monday to Thursday 11 am – midnight, Friday 11 am – 2 am, Saturdays 10 am – 2 pm, and Sundays 10 am – midnight
  • How much: All meals are $20 or under
