Canadian singer-songwriter Jann Arden has a new pet project: Keeping animals and people safe.

The songstress has just launched an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise cash to produce the “Arden Collar and Bracelet,” a wearable GPS tracking system to protect your loved ones.

Arden says she was inspired to design the system after one of her three beloved dogs, Mitty, went missing, but the device could also be used for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

She and a U.S. software developer have created a system that utilizes smartphone technology and GPS positioning to reunite lost pets with their owners.

“Think of it like a halo above your dog’s head.  It’s gonna be with your dog and cat wherever it goes. Your horse, your cow, maybe even your high school son,” she says in the promotional video.

If your loved one goes missing you can track their movement in real time through an app on your smartphone.

The device also emits bright flashing lights so the animal is highly visible if it’s in a dark area, on a road or in the woods.

The recording artist told CTV Vancouver reporter Lynda Steele that the collar can also be used as an activity and wellness tracker for your pet.

“So if you have an indoor dog, you can literally look on the phone and look at a little graph and see the activity that he’s been doing. So you know if you have a really sedentary dog and you get home from work after a 10-hour day and go ‘my dog took eight steps today, we need to go for a long walk.'”

The Arden Collar and its app Diffurence are expected to be available in the U.S. and Canada in October 2015.

The standard Arden Collar will retail for $149 with its world version selling for $350.

You can preorder yours on the Indiegogo site for $129 (plus $25 shipping).
