A new comedy TV pilot from famed director Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous, Jerry McGuire and Fast Times at Ridgemont High) will be shot in Vancouver next month, starring Luke Wilson (Old School), Imogen Poots (That Awkward Moment), Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider), Peter Cambor (NCIS: Los Angeles) and Rafe Spall (Prometheus).
Roadies, developed for the cable channel Showtime, will begin shooting January 19 at North Shore Studios until February 11. The comedy will tell the story of a successful rock tour, seen through the eyes of the behind-the-scenes crew members who put it all together, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Crowe, best known for his Oscar-winning drama Almost Famous, is a fan of the subject. The film was inspired by his experiences as a Rolling Stone contributor, and Roadies, his first foray into television, follows a similar path.
“We’re fans of crews, those workers up on the rigging towers, or walking feverishly with eight phones on their belt,” Crowe told The Hollywood Reporter in June.
J.J. Abrams will serve as Executive Producer with Winnie Holzman (My So-Called Life) as Showrunner. Abrams has recently wrapped series Almost Human, Fringe, and Alcatraz, all shot in Vancouver.
