Elliotte Friedman didn’t see it coming.
Heck, most in the hockey world didn’t see it coming.
Vancouver Canucks fans had been fearing a Quinn Hughes trade ever since president Jim Rutherford made the surprising admission in April that he wanted to play with his brothers.
And while there was hope that the Canucks could turn things around and bring him back, clearly it didn’t work out that way.
After Rutherford’s admission on Hughes last spring, some fans were beginning to accept the fact that they’d lose the best defenceman in franchise history.
But there might be only one Canucks fan who predicted the trade destination and the return correctly.
A user on X called Berty’s Sideburns posted back on May 14, 2025, that the most likely trade destination for Hughes would be the Minnesota Wild.
Not only that, but he nearly nailed the exact return.
I'm going to say this…
Everyone looking for a Quinn Hughes trade out of New Jersey. You don't have the center to make the deal.
The most likely trade candidate for the #Canucks will be the #MNWild
Rossi, Buium, and a 1st is the type of deal that gets a team Hughes.

“[Marco] Rossi, [Zeev] Buium and a [first-round pick] is the type of deal that gets a team Hughes,” the user wrote.
Well, the user, known as “Berty’s Sideburns,” was only one player away from correctly predicting the trade. Along with Rossi, Buium, and a 2026 first-round pick, the Canucks also received 21-year-old winger Liam Ă–hgren in return.
After the Hughes trade was announced, Berty’s Sideburns post started to pick up notoriety around the hockey world.

Canucks fans also acknowledged the user in disbelief.
“Are you from the future?” one fan said.
“They threw Ă–hgren in there so it wouldn’t look like plagiarism,” said another.
The user’s prediction prompted other fans to ask for more prophetic posts.
“Bro, what are we getting for Anderson, Kadri, and Coleman?” a Calgary Flames fan wrote.
“Can you tell me the day I die?” a Canucks fan inquired.
Who knows, maybe this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Berty and his sideburns.

Following a day that saw the Canucks trade the best defenceman in franchise history, at least one fan can smile knowing his unique prediction came true.
