Shaw Communications announced plans to lay off 400 employees, or about three per cent of its workforce, in efforts to consolidate its business operations.
Cable, satellite, internet and home phone services will be grouped under one umbrella in order to increase efficiency. It will then broken down into two units for residential and business customers.
In a press release, the company said they will be hiring up to 100 people to offset the layoffs along with investing in areas like procurement, supply chain, marketing, pricing, network architecture and next generation products.
Shaw Communications is headquartered in Calgary and mainly serves customers in B.C. and Alberta with a total workforce of over 14,000.
