The Good Drive is all about social sustainability. The idea for the event stemmed from a Project Management class at SFU where the focus of the projects this semester is on different forms of sustainability. Ultimately this group of students decided to focus social sustainability in lieu of Homelessness Action Week in Vancouver. Their main aim, along with gathering of household items, is to educate people on the realities of homelessness and its causes. They will be doing so through blog entries on their site www.thegooddrive.ca as well through their twitter and facebook pages.
Their goal for the drive is to collect at least 500 acceptable household items by the end of the day which they will then pass on to Gather and Give. A complete list of acceptable items can be found here. We will also be accepting donations in form of cash on the day of the event. As a way to thank the people for opening their hearts we will have a professional photographer on location for taking individual or family portraits. The photos will be emailed to them after the event.
The Good Drive is a one day event where individuals, friends and families from across the Lower Mainland can come together and drop off household goods required by individuals or families to maintain a basic standard of living. The goal of this event is to raise awareness and receive donations that will go directly to local charitable organizations. These organizations benefit various marginalized groups in Vancouver, mostly low income families and people living below the poverty line, hence improving the standard of their living.
