SFU brings free opera to the Downtown Eastside

Dec 19 2017, 11:02 pm

Simon Fraser University is bringing the opera experience to the Downtown Eastside Thursday night to celebrate International Workers Day.

Opera Bravissima celebrates Labour Movement and International Workers Day by hosting The Singing Bank: Risky Business on Thursday, April 30, at Pigeon Park Savings. The opera performance will feature famous arias and folk songs for Downtown Eastside residents and community members to enjoy.

This event is the third year that Simon Fraser University’s Vancity Office of Community Engagement has worked with Opera Bravissima and Portland Hotel Society to produce a free night of opera. Opera music in the Downtown Eastside community is part of a long tradition that includes nights of free opera music, organized by the late Jim Green and performed at Four Corners Bank in the late nineties.

Pigeon Park Savings will be transformed into a stage for the evening of opera, free to attend for all.
