[UPDATED] Severed human foot found washed ashore on Vancouver Island

Update: The BC Coroners Service says the foot detached naturally from the body as a result of being immersed in water for an extended period of time. They determined based on when the shoe was manufactured that the person died somewhere between March 2013 and December 2015.

A severed human foot was found washed ashore on Vancouver Island, BC Coroners Service has confirmed to Vancity Buzz.

The foot was discovered by hikers walking on Botanical Beach near Port Renfrew on Sunday afternoon. While the investigation is still in preliminary stages, BC Coroners Service spokesperson Barbara McLintock confirmed the foot was human. It was found in a sock and running shoe.

At this point, there’s no suspicion of foul play, McLintock said, and they’re working to determine the identity of the foot.

This is the 13th foot found washed up on B.C. shores since 2007, and 10 of those feet have been identified.
