The Vancouver Police Department has arrested one man after responding to an armed robbery at a Main Street jewellery store shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, shutting down several city blocks.

The incident occurred at Ultimate 24K Gold Co. at 531 Main St. Officers responded to the scene with weapons drawn, closing off Main Street between Keefer and Hastings.

Vancouver Police say one man is in custody and no one suffered any injuries. There were several customers and staff in the store at the time of the robbery and all were evacuated by police safely.

Soon after, the suspect exited the store and surrendered himself to police. Police remain in the area and will be investigating the incident further.

As with many active crime scenes, the Vancouver Police asked people to not tweet or publicize the locations or photos of the officers at work. Doing so can put officers in the line of duty in danger, as well as nearby witnesses.

More on this to come…
