'Would have hit overpasses': Major damage caused by semi-truck in Vancouver

A semi-truck carrying an overheight load caused major damage driving in Vancouver last night.
According to the VPD Traffic Section, the truck driver was heading from Clarke to “almost Commercial on [East] Hastings” and took out several trolley lines along the route around midnight.
This was caused by the truck’s 5.18-meter load, which exceeded the maximum height of 4.15 meters, officials said.
At 9:40 this morning, officers were still on the scene waiting for a crane to lift the load and place it on a lower flat deck.
VPD Traffic Unit said that if the truck had made its way to Highway 1, it “would have hit overpasses.”

The driver faces a number of fines, and police said serious damage was caused to the trolley wires and the truck’s load.
A witness shared images of the destruction on the Vancouver subreddit page.
“The truck pictured caught the lines and broke them, then a cab drove over the live wire and pulled them the other direction,” they claimed.
TransLink told Daily Hive that the trolley wires were down on Hastings Street between Clark Drive and Commercial Drive. This has impacted three bus routes, including the #14 Hastings/UBC, #16 29th Avenue Station/Arbutus, and the #20 Victoria/Downtown routes.
“Customers should expect delays and build additional time into their commutes while the trolley wires are being repaired,” stated TransLink.
“There is no current timeline on when service will be restored.”
