"Please do not come": BC university closes North Vancouver campus due to threat

Safety concerns have forced Capilano University to issue a warning to students and staff to not come to two of its campuses in North Vancouver on Friday.

“Due to a targeted, specific security threat, the North Vancouver Capilano University Main and Lonsdale campuses will both be closed on Friday, June 21. Please do not come to either campus,” the university wrote online.

Details on the threat have not been shared. North Vancouver RCMP did say it has taken conduct of the file and the investigation is ongoing.

“We can confirm the threats in question were directed at one individual and not towards the school or other students and that there is no threat to public safety,” they said Friday morning.

Adding that there have been no arrests made.

Staff are being told to work remotely, and students will be notified of alternate plans if they are impacted by the campus closures.

“Unless otherwise communicated by one’s supervisor, employees who had planned to attend work on location will, depending upon their roles and duties, be asked to work remotely,” the notice adds.

The university says it expects to be open on Saturday but did not provide details as to how.
