It’s not unusual to catch glimpses of Santa Claus around Vancouver at this time of year—what is unusual is to see him swimming through a 260,000-litre saltwater habitat amidst a variety of local fish.
Scuba Claus, as he is affectionately known, can be seen taking breaks from his Christmas preparations and diving into the Aquarium’s Strait of Georgia exhibit. The man in red is a major hit as he swims around the habitat before an audience of spellbound children.
Scuba Claus floats through the water in search of an item that fell from his sleigh, while interacting with sea stars, rockfish, white sturgeon, a giant Pacific octopus and numerous other fish to provide an interactive and informative show about the sea life that inhabits B.C. Waters.
Scuba Claus can be seen at the Aquarium at 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and every day from December 21 to 24. Guests at the Aquarium can also take in the marvelous feature Luminescence—a celebration of aquatic light. Visit vanaqua.org for more information.
