Scammers are apparently looking to make a quick buck off the misfortune of two of the families whose dogs were stolen from an off-leash park in Langley.
The families say that they received phone calls from a man who said he had their dog, asking for money to be wire-transferred to him.
“That’s just the cruelest thing anyone could do to a person, it’s so wrong. We offered him $1,000 in cash, in person and he hung up on us,” Colleen King, one of the dog’s owners, told CTV.

The dogs went missing on May 13 from Brookswood Dog Park after the dogs’ sitter put them in the back of her pickup truck so she could use the washroom. When she returned ten minutes later, the truck’s canopy had been unlatched and all six dogs were gone.
Some of the families who were victims of the dog-napping returned to the park Thursday evening as part of a rally for the dogs return, where they handed out flyers and spread the word about their missing pets.
Paulsen left her car in the park overnight Wednesday, stocking it with food, water and clothing items that the dogs would find familiar, with the hope that they would return. But when she came back on Thursday morning, her truck had been towed.
