Save On Meats is set to reopen on Valentine’s Day after months of renovation. The historic business has seen a revival under the ownership of Mark Brand. He not only serves up great meals for diners but also offers programs for low-income people in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES).
The renovations have resulted in an expanded kitchen and more seating. To allow for the extra seating, the butcher shop was reduced in size.
Brand has just inked a 20 year deal that will make sure the iconic diner isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon.
Expect it to be business as usual when the doors open, food programs and all.
According to News1130 radio, Brand plans to start a community kitchen/incubator in the next month or so. The incubator will be through a partnership with the City of Vancouver and Vancouver Community College.
