You probably aren’t expecting culinary delights when you grab something to eat from a gas station, but in Italy, gas station snacks are anything but boring. That’s why Gastown’s Salt Tasting Room is putting the spotlight on these fun and delectable European-style snacks for their Italian Gas Station Experiment.
The restaurant has teamed up with their pals at Urbani Foods to offer patrons complimentary samples of their products, inspired by Italy’s gas station snacks. Launching in February and running for the entire month, guests who order wine, by the glass, flight or bottle, will be able to order free Italian tapas. Forget sugary creme-filled cakes in crazy colours or over-cooked hot dogs; these eats include Venetian Tea sandwiches (Tramessini) with cheese, salami and olive tapenade or fresh sausages sous vide in a jar, and Urbani Food’s famous Arancini Risottoballs (also called ‘Polpette di Riso’) which are the most popular street food in Italy.

Customers can also find their favourite Urbani Foods items in stock and for sale at half-off at Salt Tasting Room during the promotion, which runs the entire month of February.
The Salt Tasting Room’s Italian Gas Station Experiment comes on the heels of their wildly popular San Sebastian Experiment, which featured delicious tapas matched with exciting wine pours.
The Italian Gas Station Experiment will launch at Salt Tasting Room on February 1, and will be offered Mondays through Sundays from 4-6pm.
