Multiple Safeway employees in Metro Vancouver test positive for coronavirus

Sobeys Inc. has reported that two employees in Metro Vancouver have tested positive for COVID-19.

The food retailer confirmed that an employee who was working at the Safeway at 8860-152 Street in Surrey has tested positive.

This staff member last worked on August 1. This location has had two other employees test positive prior to this, their last shifts were on July 30 and August 1, according to the company’s website.

Another staff member working at the Safeway located at 12825-16 Avenue in Surrey has tested positive as well. The last time this employee worked was August 1.

Sobeys outlines that after each case is reported, they ensure the store where the individual worked is deep cleaned and sanitized.

“Where required, we will communicate with customers who have shopped in the impacted location, with store signage, outlining our steps to manage the situation. Out of an abundance of caution, with each case that is reported, we will deep clean and sanitize the store location.”

The company also says it is working closely with public health officials to investigate these teammate’s known points of contact and recent shifts and will notify all teammates who require self-isolation for two weeks.

Sobeys has a public record of all the confirmed cases in its company across the country.
