Rogers to end OMNI Televsion newscasts

Dec 19 2017, 11:07 pm

Rogers media will be making cuts to its TV operations, and will be terminating all newscasts on its multicultural network, OMNI Television.

The Globe and Mail reported that staff would be notified of their dismissals today, and that OMNI “is in a financial crisis” with ad revenues dropping by more than 50 per cent over two years.

More than one hundred positions with the network will be eliminated. Staff in the multicultural network’s Vancouver branch are expected to be affected.

Currently, OMNI British Columbia broadcasts shows in a wide range of languages including Mandarin, Hindi and Farsi. OMNI also broadcasts the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Punjabi.
