Robson Square Renovations

Dec 19 2017, 12:33 pm

For the past few months people that work or stroll by Robson Square have probably realized the massive amount of construction going on there right now. In case you’re wondering what’s going on the garden is being removed to replace the membrane underneath it to repair the leaks that have plagued tenants. Now, my first reaction was one of joy as I thought they were going to remove the garden once and for all. Sadly, that is not the case, apparently they’re going to replant the garden back to its original form. What a mistake, just look at the space that opens up.

Now, I don’t have a problem with gardens, so environmentalist and activists please no hate mail. My problem is the space the garden occupies and how it is disconnected with the street level. Give some serious thought as to the last time you ever saw someone utilize that space? The answer is probably never. They should (if possible) flatten that garden out and make more space on the south side of Robson and truly open up the public space, thus providing more room for people in our defacto central city square.

Tomorrow I’ll look into how Robson Square can be better utilized.
