The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is sharing some information relating to the alleged robbery of an 84-year-old woman in downtown this past weekend.
VPD is describing the incident as a strong-arm robbery and said that the victim was approached by two people, a male and a female, who accused her of stealing from them.
According to the VPD, she was standing near Homer and West Pender before 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, when the pair approached her. One suspect then allegedly took the woman’s cane, and the other tried to take a purse off her shoulder.
VPD says that she was able to hold on to her purse until another person intervened. The suspects then went north on Homer Street.
“Every indication suggests this senior was targeted because she appeared vulnerable,” said VPD Sergeant Steve Addison in a statement.
“We’re releasing this video with hopes of identifying the suspects and locating witnesses. We believe there is at least one person who intervened, and we’d like to speak to that person.”
VPD describes the female suspect as having long, dark hair and wearing a brown T-shirt with a logo on the front and black pants. Police say she has multiple tattoos on her arms. The male suspect is described as having long brown hair and wearing a grey T-shirt and grey pants.
